“SHE MAKES ME PROUD OF THIS CITY I LOVE,” SAYS GLORIA STEINEM
Acclaimed Feminist and Political Activist Gloria Steinem Endorses Helen Rosenthal for City Council Re-Election
New York, NY: Acclaimed writer, political activist and feminist organizer Gloria Steinem has endorsed incumbent Council Member Helen Rosenthal for re-election to the New York City Council, representing Manhattan's Upper West Side.
"I support Helen Rosenthal for re-election to the New York City Council from District 6,” said Gloria Steinem. “She has proven that she listens, she innovates, and she brings New Yorkers together – including city school children who have for too long been divided by the past instead of getting to know each other for the future. She makes me proud of this city I love.”
"Gloria Steinem's life and career offer an iconic example to us all,” said Council Member Rosenthal. “Her endorsement powerfully validates the work we've been doing – particularly with regard to gender equity, diversity, civil rights, and bringing our community together. I'm thrilled to receive Gloria Steinem's endorsement.”
Among her other accomplishments, Council Member Rosenthal supported parent leaders who voted 9-1 to adopt the first public school integration plan for the Upper West Side in more than 50 years. This plan was supported by the editorial boards of The New York Times and The New York Daily News.
In addition to Gloria Steinem, Rosenthal's re-election has been endorsed by, among others, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer; The National Organization for Women - NYC; the Sierra Club; and the Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City.
